Alberta commits $2.4 million to gambling treatment at Brick House Recovery Centre
The Edmonton and Calgary provider is the first organization funded under a provincial competition for gambling treatment and recovery services.

The Alberta government is putting about $2.4 million into treatment and recovery services for people dealing with gambling addiction, with Brick House Recovery Centre named as the first organization to receive money.
The province announced the funding on Thursday, Sept. 24. Brick House has locations in Edmonton and Calgary and also offers virtual support to clients in other parts of Alberta.
According to the government, the money will expand gambling treatment and recovery programs at the centre so that more Albertans can get specialized care. The province says the supports will be free and focused on recovery.
A competitive process
Earlier in 2026 the province ran an open competition for qualified organizations to deliver coordinated outpatient treatment and recovery services for gambling problems. Brick House is the first successful applicant. The government says more recipients will be chosen later this fall.
Rick Wilson, Alberta's Minister of Mental Health and Addiction, said gambling can have "devastating consequences for individuals and families." He said the aim is to help people restore stability, build resilience and reach long-term recovery.
Dr. Lovneet Hayer, chief medical officer and co-founder of Brick House, said the organization was proud to partner with the province. In a news release she said the centre is committed to helping individuals and families affected by gambling addiction get high-quality, recovery-focused care, with the goal of offering hope, practical support and a path to lasting recovery.
Where to get help
The province pointed people looking for help to 211 Alberta, which can be reached by phone at any hour. The service can connect individuals and families with Brick House as well as other mental health, addiction and community supports.
The government said gambling addiction can seriously affect a person's mental health, finances, relationships and overall well-being, and that the new funding is meant to make sure help is available when people need it.
