Two First Nations now own River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, B.C., after Great Canadian Entertainment closed the sale of the property.

The buyer is a partnership between Petroglyph Development Group (PDG), a wholly owned corporation of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, and Musqueam Capital Corp., the economic development arm of the Musqueam Indian Band. The resort sits on Musqueam lands.

Fifth deal between the companies

The closing completes an agreement announced earlier between Great Canadian and PDG. It is the fifth acquisition between the two companies. PDG bought Casino Nanaimo and Elements Casino Victoria in January 2025, then Chances Maple Ridge and Great Canadian Casino Vancouver earlier in the second quarter of 2026.

PDG has become the largest Indigenous-owned casino operator in Canada by revenue, iNTERGAME reported.

About the resort

River Rock opened on June 25, 2004, on the Fraser River and is described as the largest casino resort in Western Canada. It has more than 1,200 slot machines and electronic table games, more than 80 table games, a racebook and a poker room.

The property also includes nearly 400 hotel rooms, a 1,000-seat theatre, a marina, 10 food and beverage outlets and a full-service spa. Its restaurants include Gordon Ramsay Steak, the chef's first fine dining restaurant in Canada.

Matt Anfinson, chief executive of Great Canadian, called River Rock "one of the most successful and iconic gaming and hospitality destinations in Canada." He said he has confidence in the leadership of PDG and Musqueam Capital, and expects the resort and its staff to keep contributing to the economic success of both nations.

Financial terms were not disclosed in the reports. McMillan LLP advised Great Canadian on the sale.

Great Canadian was founded in 1982 as the Great Canadian Casino Company, running two charity casinos at Vancouver's Pacific National Exhibition. It now operates in 20 cities and towns across Canada.
