Two Midwestern Ontario municipalities have received their first casino hosting payments of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's 2026-27 fiscal year. Together the two cheques total $555,621.

The Municipality of Central Huron received $212,504 for hosting Gateway Casinos Clinton between April 1 and June 30, Sarnia News Today reported. That was about $11,000 more than Central Huron received for the same three months a year earlier.

The Town of Hanover received $343,117 for hosting its Playtime Casino. Hanover's cheque was roughly $4,000 smaller than the one it received for the same period in 2025.

A long-running revenue stream

Both towns have hosted gaming sites for more than two decades. Hanover has received more than $25 million since its site opened in 2001. The Clinton site has generated more than $15 million for its host municipality.

OLG said in a statement that host payments are calculated the same way across the province. "Payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario," the agency said.

That formula uses a graduated scale linked to gaming revenue at each hosted site. Quarterly payments therefore rise and fall with the amount played at the local casino. That explains the small changes in both towns' cheques compared with last year.

Central Huron's payment rose while Hanover's dipped slightly. For small municipalities, the money is a steady source of non-tax revenue. Hanover's 25-year total and Clinton's 15-million-dollar total have both been built up one quarter at a time.

OLG makes the payments four times a year. The fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31, so the April to June payment is the first of the new year.
