The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has received $473,709 from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for hosting Cascades Casino Chatham.

The payment covers the first quarter of OLG's 2026-27 fiscal year, from April 1 to June 30, Sarnia News Today reported. It is almost $13,000 more than the municipality received for the previous quarter.

The money is non-tax revenue, meaning it reaches the municipal budget without coming from local property taxpayers. The new cheque lifts Chatham-Kent's total hosting revenue from its gaming site to $21,855,969.

The payment is close to last year's. Chatham-Kent received $474,992 for the same April to June quarter in 2025, the Chatham Voice reported at the time. For the January to March 2026 quarter, it received $460,993, and its total for the 2025-26 fiscal year was more than $1.8 million.

How the payment is set

OLG does not negotiate a separate deal with each host town. Payments follow a single formula that applies to every gaming site in Ontario. The formula uses a graduated scale tied to the gaming revenue earned at the hosted site. A busier casino produces a larger cheque for its host.

Across the province, host communities have received more than $2.4 billion in non-tax gaming revenue since 1994, the report said.

Local reaction

Trevor Jones, the MPP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington, welcomed the payment in a media release. He said revenue from OLG's Municipality Contribution Agreement allows Chatham-Kent to "invest in infrastructure" and to pay for important community services.

Jones also said the provincial share of revenue from Cascades Casino Chatham helps improve quality of life for families across Ontario.

In April, Sarnia News Today reported that the money is reinvested in the community. Through the Together CK program, the casino has supported 443 events and 548 projects over 25 years. Mayor Darrin Canniff said at the time that OLG revenue continues to play an important role in strengthening the community.
