Century Casinos to sell Century Mile and Century Downs racinos for about $23.2M
Highfield Investment Group will take over Alberta's two racetrack casinos, which are expected to keep operating after the sale closes.

Century Casinos is selling its two Alberta racinos, Century Mile Racetrack and Casino near Edmonton and Century Downs Racetrack and Casino just north of Calgary, to Highfield Investment Group for about $23.2 million.
The company announced the deal on Monday, Sept. 28. It expects the sale to close in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.
Both properties combine casino gaming with live horse racing. Century Mile sits near Edmonton International Airport, while Century Downs serves the Calgary area.
No closures have been announced, and both venues are expected to keep running under their new owner.
Leases move to the buyer
Century Casinos owns all of Century Mile and 75 per cent of Century Downs, with other partners holding the remaining quarter. The land and buildings at both sites belong to VICI Properties, which leases them to Century Casinos. Highfield will take over those leases and the rent that comes with them.
The company said the sale fits its plan to focus on its properties in the United States. It intends to use the money to pay down debt and expects the deal to cut its annual rent costs by about $10.7 million.
Co-CEOs Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger described the sale as "an important step towards concentrating our resources on our U.S. properties."
Both venues hold racing entertainment centre licences rather than full casino licences. In December 2025, Alberta's Court of King's Bench upheld the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission's refusal to let the two tracks convert to casino licences and add 10 table games each.
Century Casinos is not leaving Alberta altogether. Century Casino & Hotel in Edmonton and Century Casino in St. Albert are not part of the transaction and will stay with the company.
